On The Cuff History

On The Cuff started in 1980 because the previous owner, Paula Gooden, had a quilt shop and customers were wanting to personalize their quilts. The embroidery part of the business started getting more inquiries and expanded with designs as well as monograms and names. The desire to learn more about embroidery ended the quilting side of the business and demand for custom monograms required the purchase of the first computerized embroidery machine for Paula.

The company grew with help from several assistants, myself included, and the purchase of more advanced machines. For several years, the two of us stayed busy on a daily basis and with the help of a new partner, Farin Smith, we expanded and moved the business into the building we currently reside in.

I bought the business from Paula in the fall of 1998 and have progressed since then with more inventory and 8 employees. With the purchase of two 4 head machines from the 3 single heads that Paula had, On The Cuff has steadily maintained it’s clientele and new trends as they apply to the embroidery business in today’s market.
